The short answer

Teatre Muntaner is a comedy-only theatre at Carrer de Muntaner 4, in the Eixample. It calls itself the house of comedy. It runs on three floors and 800 square metres, with its own box office and its own ticket site.

Go if you speak Spanish or Catalan and want a proper theatre night, with a published programme and a clear price. Skip it if you want comedy in English. We found no English show in the listings we read.

The theatre ranks 4th in the Top 10 comedy clubs in Barcelona, on 56 points out of 100. Its programme is the most reliable of the rooms outside the Clubhouse, and its ratings are the strongest. Its weak points are the language, the price and the gaps in the practical facts.

At a glance. Address: Carrer de Muntaner, 4, 08011 Barcelona, Eixample. 21 shows from 2 to 15 November, 7 titles. Tickets from €14 to €20. Languages: Spanish and Catalan. Own ticket site. Box office opens 90 minutes before each show. No English shows found.

Where it is

The address is Carrer de Muntaner, 4, 08011 Barcelona. The barrio is the Eixample, the gridded district north of the old town. The street name and number are on the theatre's own site, and every ticket page repeats them.

We found no source that names the nearest metro station, and the theatre's page only links to a map. We therefore do not name a station. Plan the trip on TMB, which gives metro, bus and night bus for any address.

Open in Google Maps to check the walk. The box office is at the same address and opens 90 minutes before each show.

What the building is

The theatre's home page describes a centenary theatre on three floors, 800 square metres in all. It also describes a bar and a foyer. It does not give a seat count, and we found no other page that does.

The building has a past. Press coverage from October 2024 says it is the former Sala Muntaner, a theatre that closed after 24 years and stayed shut for about six. Time Out reported that it would reopen as a theatre devoted to comedy, from improv to musical comedy.

That history matters for one reason. Many visitors will find the old name on maps and in older guides. If a page calls the place Sala Muntaner, it is the same street number. The programme on the new site is the one to trust.

The slogan, "la casa de la comèdia", is the theatre's own, and the press repeats it. It tells you what to expect: a theatre, and not a bar with a mic in the corner.

Seats, access and the bar

We know three things: the floor area, the number of floors and that a bar exists. We do not know the number of seats, the lift, the ramps or the adapted places. The scorecard marks the room low for that reason.

Write to the theatre if access matters. The info address is on the home page. Ask for the answer in writing, and ask whether the seat you want is on the street level.

A normal week at Teatre Muntaner

The theatre publishes its programme show by show and no weekly pattern. The dated sessions from 2 to 15 November still show a rhythm: the shows run from Thursday to Sunday, and nothing is dated for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

DaySessions (week of 5 to 8 November)Sessions (week of 12 to 15 November)
Thursday20:00, improv20:00, improv
Friday18:30 and 20:30, improv. 22:30, stand-up18:30 and 20:30, improv. 22:30, stand-up
Saturday17:00 and 19:00, improv. 21:00, theatre comedy in Catalan. 23:00, theatre comedy17:00 and 19:00, improv. 21:00 and 23:00, stand-up
Sunday17:00 and 19:00, improv12:30, theatre comedy in Catalan. 17:00 and 19:00, improv

The pattern is clear. Improv fills the early slots and the middle of the evening. Stand-up and theatre comedy take the late slots on Friday and Saturday, at 21:00, 22:30 and 23:00.

In total the theatre lists 21 sessions in the window, on four days of each week. Seven titles share them. One show, Corta el cable rojo, takes most of the sessions.

The shows

We read seven show pages. Here is what each one is, from the theatre's own listing.

  • Corta el cable rojo. Improv in Spanish, from €20. It holds most of the sessions. Press coverage of the reopening called it the main show and said it would stay.
  • Sobria y Serena. El Chou. Stand-up in Spanish, Friday 6 November at 22:30, from €20.
  • Quemado. Stand-up in Spanish, Friday 13 November at 22:30, from €20.
  • Traficante de Endorfinas. Stand-up in Spanish, Saturday 14 November at 21:00, from €14. The cheapest ticket in the window.
  • Como pasar de los 60 y no morir en el intento. Stand-up in Spanish, Saturday 14 November at 23:00, from €15.
  • Las vacas no vuelan. Theatre comedy in Spanish, Saturday 7 November at 23:00, from €17. The page shows a 15% discount promotion.
  • Un Tal Shakespeare. Theatre comedy in Catalan, listed as humour and theatre, from €18. It runs on Saturday 7 November at 21:00 and Sunday 15 November at 12:30.

None of the titles has an English page. If you want a taste of the format without the language barrier, the improv show is the one where physical comedy and audience suggestions carry some of the weight. It is still a Spanish-language show.

The stand-up shows are one-person shows by named comics, and the jokes depend on timing and wordplay. A visitor with school Spanish will catch the shape of a story and lose the punchlines. We would not book one of those without good Spanish.

Source: the theatre's show pages, read on 2 November 2026.

What it costs

Every show page gives a "from" price, in Catalan "Preu: Des de". That is the lowest ticket, not the only one. The prices we read run from €14 to €20, and the median over all 21 sessions is €20.

No session in the window is free. That puts the theatre well above the open-mic rooms, where the Clubhouse lists free nights. A seat for the improv show costs more than twice what a Wednesday Night Comedy ticket costs at the Laietana room, which is €8 online.

The cheapest way in is Traficante de Endorfinas at €14, or Como pasar de los 60 at €15. The late Saturday theatre comedy, Las vacas no vuelan at €17, has a 15% discount promotion on its page. Check whether it applies to your date.

The theatre sells through its own ticket platform, so we cannot say whether a booking fee is added at checkout. We did not go through checkout.

Who Teatre Muntaner suits

A date night in Spanish

This is a good fit if you both speak Spanish. A theatre with a bar and a foyer is a different night from a basement club. The 18:30 session on Friday leaves the late evening free for dinner. For English options, our date night guide lists the rooms that use English.

A group

We found no group price and no group booking page. A theatre of this size may seat a larger party than a small club, but you would need to ask. Our group night out guide lists the shows that publish a rate for four or more.

A visitor with little Spanish

Pick another room. The shows are in Spanish and Catalan. For English-language comedy, see the English nights out guide or the two Clubhouse reviews, Laietana and Canvis Nous.

Someone who wants to learn Spanish by ear

This is a fair use. Improv from audience suggestions uses everyday words, and you can watch the actors for context. It is not a language class, but a learner with some Spanish will follow more than at a stand-up hour.

Booking and the box office

Book on the theatre's site. The Buy button on each show page goes to lamuntaner.entradas.plus. A second route is the tickets email address on the home page.

The box office phone is +34 614 402 738 and opens 90 minutes before each performance. The general email is info@teatremuntaner.com. The theatre is on Instagram and TikTok under its own name.

We found no age rule, no refund rule and no late-entry rule. Ask the box office before you rely on a late arrival.

One warning for dates after 12 November. On 2 November the improv show's page carried a banner saying that sales for sessions from 12 November had been switched off for the day and would reopen that morning. We could not tell whether it did. Check that the Buy button works for your date.

How it compares

Against the Clubhouse rooms, Teatre Muntaner is bigger, more formal and more expensive. The Clubhouse offers English on every day of the window and free nights. The theatre offers a longer programme in Spanish and a steadier week.

Against the other rooms, it is the one with the most fully documented programme. Secret Comedy Club has four dated listings. Teatre Muntaner has 21 sessions from its own pages. Its reliability score of 12 out of 15 is the highest of the four rooms in places 3 to 6.

Against the two smaller rooms, La Sala by LastCrit and Club Cronopios, the theatre costs more per ticket. Those two rooms start at €12 and €10. They also run more sessions on more days.

Public ratings9 of 10Atrápalo and Taquilla ratings, both for one show

The ratings deserve a plain reading. Atrápalo gives Corta el cable rojo 9.6 out of 10 from 13,307 votes. Taquilla gives it 4.9 out of 5 from 1,386. They rate the improv show and not the theatre, and we say so on the scorecard. A strong show carries the theatre's rating points.

The total is 56 points out of 100, on a full 100 available. It ranks 4th by score. The method page explains each criterion: see how we rate.

What we could not source

  • The number of seats, the lift and any adapted places.
  • The metro station nearest to the door.
  • The language of any title beyond the seven we read.
  • Whether a booking fee is added at checkout.
  • Whether the 12 November sales switch-off was reversed.
  • Any third-party critic review of the room. We searched and found listings and audience ratings only.

We have not been to the theatre for this page, and nothing here describes a visit. A first-hand write-up and photos will be added when someone has been and the rights are cleared. Meanwhile, see the Top 10 comedy shows in Barcelona for what is on at other rooms.

What public sources say

Tripadvisor has no page for this theatre that we could find. The quotes below come from verified ticket buyers on Taquilla and from the press. The three buyer quotes are in Spanish, copied as they appear, with a plain English gloss. They rate the improv show Corta el cable rojo, not the building. Taquilla scores that show 4.9 out of 5.

  • “Gran improshow, excelente para pasar un buen rato. Lo recomiendo 100%” (Great improv show, excellent for a good time. I recommend it 100%.) Verified buyer, Taquilla, 26 October 2026. Taquilla opinions for the show
  • “Es la segunda vez que veo la obra en un mes y ha sido igual de destornillante que la primera.” (It is the second time I have seen the show in a month and it was as funny as the first.) Verified buyer, Taquilla, 13 October 2026. Taquilla opinions, 13 October

Questions people ask

Are the shows at Teatre Muntaner in English?

No. In the dated listings from 2 to 15 November, every show page states Spanish or Catalan. Most are in Spanish, and Un Tal Shakespeare and the children's shows are in Catalan. We found no English show. If you do not speak either language, an improv show can still be fun, but the jokes depend on words.

How much is a ticket at Teatre Muntaner?

The theatre shows a "from" price on each show page. For the comedy shows we read, it runs from €14 to €20. The median over the 21 shows in our window is €20, and none is free. One page also shows a 15% discount promotion, so look at the show page before you pay.

Where do I buy tickets?

On the theatre's own site. The Buy button on each show page sends you to the ticket platform lamuntaner.entradas.plus. You can also write to the tickets email address, or call the box office, which opens 90 minutes before each performance. Nothing in our data says that the box office takes walk-up sales on a sold-out night.

Is the theatre accessible for wheelchairs?

We do not know. The pages we read give the building as three floors on 800 square metres and say nothing about lifts, ramps or adapted seats. If anyone in your group needs step-free access, write to the theatre's info address before you book and ask for the answer in writing.

What is the improv show everyone mentions?

Corta el cable rojo, an improvised comedy in Spanish. It fills most of the sessions in our window, with several on Saturdays and Sundays. Its ratings are the high ones: 9.6 out of 10 from 13,307 votes on Atrápalo and 4.9 out of 5 from 1,386 on Taquilla. Those ratings are for the show, not the theatre.

Is there a bar or food?

There is a bar and a foyer, according to the theatre's home page. We found no menu, no kitchen and no rule on drinks in the room. Plan on a drink before or after the show, and eat elsewhere. The streets around the Eixample have plenty of places open late, which we did not review.

What changed on 2 November?

The Corta el cable rojo page showed a banner saying that sales for sessions from 12 November had been switched off for the day and would reopen that morning. We could not tell whether the switch-off was reversed. If you want a seat after 12 November, check that the Buy button works before you plan around it.

How many seats does the theatre have?

About 200. Ara wrote in July 2024 that the old Sala Muntaner had roughly 200 seats, and a Barcelona ticket platform lists the same capacity for the reopened Teatre Muntaner. The theatre does not publish a seat count on its own pages. A 200-seat room is small, so popular improv nights can sell out ahead of time.

Which metro and buses go to Teatre Muntaner?

A ticket platform lists the metro station Universitat, on lines L1 and L2, and about twenty bus lines. The city guide places the theatre in the Sant Antoni part of the Eixample. The theatre's own pages give no route, so check TMB for your start point and for the night buses back.

Is the improv show suitable for children?

The sources disagree. The theatre's page for Corta el cable rojo recommends the show for ages 14 and over. The Taquilla page repeats that in its description but says in its question section that the show is for all audiences. Another show, Desahógate, is marked for 18 and over. Check the age line of the show you book.

How long is Corta el cable rojo?

Taquilla gives about an hour and a half. The theatre's page states no running time. Improvised shows can run a little over or under, depending on the audience, so do not book a tight train or a late dinner for the moment the curtain falls. Leave a margin of at least 30 minutes.

Does the audience take part in the improv?

Improvised comedy depends on suggestions from the room. A verified Taquilla buyer wrote on 20 October 2026 that the cast interact with the audience. The show page does not say whether people are brought on stage. If you prefer to watch quietly, sit away from the front and ask the staff at the door.

Does Teatre Muntaner serve alcohol-free drinks?

We cannot say. The home page shows a photo captioned bar and foyer, with no menu, no drinks policy and no rule on taking drinks into the room. Write to the theatre's info address on its site, or ask the box office, whether it sells soft drinks, zero-alcohol beer or coffee before the show.

Who runs the theatre and when did it open?

The building was the Sala Muntaner until it closed in 2018. Time Out reported that it reopened under the name Teatre Muntaner, with an inauguration on 22 October 2024. It is run by the producer behind Corta el cable rojo and the showman Toni Cano. Its stated aim is to be the house of comedy, with comedy only.

Is Teatre Muntaner the top pick for English comedy in Barcelona?

No, because it has no English show in our data. It ranks 4th in our Top 10, with 56 points out of 100. If you speak Spanish, its improv has the strongest audience ratings in our data. If you need English, start with the Clubhouse reviews.

When should I arrive for a show?

The theatre says its box office opens 90 minutes before each show. It states no doors time. For a collection of tickets, arrive during that window. For a seat you can reach calmly, aim to be at the entrance about 20 minutes before the start. Corta el cable rojo starts at 20:00 on Thursday 5 November.
