Open mics in Barcelona: how to get a spot
Which open mic to try first, and what the public pages say and do not say about getting on the list.

The short answer
You get a spot at a Barcelona open mic by turning up, or by writing to the club first. None of the event pages we read publishes the rules for the list. That is the main gap in public information, and this guide says where the gap is. The easiest place to start is the Friday or Saturday afternoon open mic at The Clubhouse: Laietana.
Show Up Go Up describes itself as the most relaxed open mic in Barcelona, where anyone who shows up can perform. It is free and in English. The same room hosts four more open mics a week, so a first attempt that goes badly can be followed by a second within days.
To perform: Show Up Go Up, Friday 17:30 or Saturday 17:00, at Laietana. To perform a short, loud set: Gong Wild at Canvis Nous, six minutes each. To watch: any of the Monday and Tuesday evening mics. All in English, data read on 2 November 2026.

Which open mic should a newcomer pick?
Each night frames its crowd differently. The club words its descriptions on the event pages, and we repeat them here without judging them.
| Night | When | Who the page says it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Show Up Go Up | Friday 17:30, Saturday 17:00 | Anyone who shows up |
| Shitty Mic | Monday 21:00 | Professionals and newcomers alike |
| Coming In Hot | Monday 19:30 | Open mic, no audience stated |
| Fat Goose | Tuesday 19:30 | Billed as the most unpredictable |
| Big Mic Energy | 1st and 3rd Tuesday 21:00 | Women, non-binary comedians and newcomers |
| New Jokes, Who Dis? | 4th Tuesday 21:00 | Top comedians testing new jokes |
| Anything Else? Open Mic | A Friday a month, 19:00 | Music, spoken word and storytelling |
All seven are at Laietana, in The Alcove, and all but the last are free. The last costs €5 online and €7 at the door. For a day-by-day view of the same nights, read our weekly guide to English comedy.

How does the sign-up list work?
The pages say that anyone who shows up can perform at Show Up Go Up and Shitty Mic. They do not say how names are taken, whether a list opens before the doors or how many slots a night holds. Treat any claim about the list, including ours, as unconfirmed until the club answers.
There are three ways to find out. You can write to the club by email before your visit. The club's FAQ lists email, phone and WhatsApp as contact routes. You can arrive when the doors open and ask the host. Or you can watch one night first and see how the host runs the list.
The third option costs you one evening and nothing else. It also shows the room, the size of the audience and the tone of the host, which tells you what kind of set will work.

What do you need to bring?
The pages publish no set length for the regular open mics. Gong Wild is the exception: anyone who signs up gets six minutes, and the audience may end a set with the gong. Plan a set you can stop at three minutes. A short set that lands is easier to extend than a long one is to trim.
Arrive when the doors open. For the Friday Show Up Go Up that is 17:00, for the Saturday one 16:30, and for the Monday and Tuesday evening mics 19:00 or 20:30. The club says a seat is held only until the show starts.
Be ready for a small, mixed crowd. An open mic holds first-timers, regulars and friends of the performers. The room is a bar, so buying a drink is normal. Keep your phone away while others perform, and clap between acts.

Where can you write the set first?
If you have no material yet, the free Open Writing Workshop runs every Saturday at 15:00 in the same room as Show Up Go Up, which starts at 17:00. A writing hour followed by a stage slot is the shortest route we found. The workshops guide and the free workshops post cover the sessions in detail.
The page says nothing about the level of the workshop or whether you must bring writing. Nobody from this site has attended one, so we cannot describe what happens in it. Ask the club if you are unsure.

Are there open mics outside the Clubhouse?
A few nights run elsewhere, with less information. Secret Comedy Club in El Raval hosts Thorny Thursday from 22:00 to 23:30. The Meetup page calls it a try-out night and says audience members hand in their highs and lows of the week. It lists no price, and the page gives the series as weekly until 17 December 2026.
The Jokes & Beers organiser says every comedian is welcome, from first-timers to famous names, and that it has run weekly shows for years. We found no upcoming date, so we do not count it as running. Craft Barcelona lists a hosted Wednesday stand-up night, Punchline Passport, but it is a booked line-up, not an open list.

Is watching an open mic worth it?
It depends on the night. A weekday evening open mic is a lottery of quality, and it costs nothing. If you want a polished show, a Friday or Saturday showcase is the better choice. Our Top 10 comedy shows ranks the weekly showcases, and the English stand-up and open mics guide lists the dated mics for the next two weeks.
The Meetup group English Comedy in Barcelona had 7,277 members when we read it, and it announces some of these nights. Its public rating of 4.6 from 732 ratings is for the group, not for any single open mic.

Questions people ask
How do I get a spot at an open mic in Barcelona?
The event pages we read do not publish a sign-up method. The practical routes are to write to the club before your first visit, or to ask the host when doors open. Show Up Go Up is billed as open to anyone who turns up, so it is the safest first try. Gong Wild gives six minutes to anyone who signs up.
Are the open mics in English?
Yes, every one in our data is tagged English on its event page. That covers the Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday open mics at Laietana, the monthly Anything Else? night and Thorny Thursday at Secret Comedy Club. If you perform in Spanish, ask the club first, because we found no Spanish-language open mic in the data.
Do I have to pay to perform?
We found no fee for performers on any page. Most of the Clubhouse open mics are free to watch, and the pages do not describe a charge to go on stage. The exception for audiences is the monthly Anything Else? night, which costs €5 online and €7 at the door. Confirm with the club.
How long is a set?
Only one page states it. Gong Wild gives anyone who signs up six minutes, and the audience can stop a set with the gong. The other open mics publish no set length. Prepare a short set that still works if the host cuts it down, and ask the host at the door how many minutes you get.
Which open mic suits a complete beginner?
Show Up Go Up on Friday and Saturday afternoons, and Big Mic Energy for women, non-binary comedians and newcomers on the first and third Tuesday. Shitty Mic mixes professionals and newcomers on Mondays. New Jokes, Who Dis? is for working comedians trying fresh material, so a beginner should watch it, not enter it.
Can I just watch?
Yes. The open mics are public events, and the Clubhouse ones are free. Arrive when the doors open, which is about thirty minutes before the start, and stay between sets. A seat is only held until the show begins. Silence your phone, and leave or arrive between acts, never during one.
