The short answer

Comedy is one of the easiest ways to spend an evening in English in Barcelona. Almost every show at The Comedy Clubhouse is tagged English, and the language is on the ticket page. You do not need Spanish or Catalan for those nights. This guide shows which formats suit someone new to the city, and which ones help you meet people.

To meet people: the Wednesday pub quiz and the free workshops at Laietana. To pick up Spanish: The Spanglish Show on Thursday. For a first look at the scene: a weekend showcase at Canvis Nous. Data read on 2 November 2026.

This page is a map for newcomers. For the dated shows this week, open what's on this week. For the full list of English-language options in the city, read our English nights out guide.

Is English-language comedy common in Barcelona?

It is common at one club and rare elsewhere. In the dated listings we read, nearly all English shows were at the two Clubhouse rooms, and the other rooms in our ranking sell Spanish or Catalan shows to a local audience. Outside the Clubhouse, we found two small English nights, at Secret Comedy Club and Craft Barcelona.

The wider scene is big. Ara, the Catalan newspaper, reported on 19 September 2026 that 240,000 comedy tickets were sold in Barcelona last year, and that the country has ten comedy festivals. Most of that is in Spanish and Catalan. The English scene is a small part of it, and no source measures it.

The English Comedy in Barcelona group on Meetup had 7,277 members when we read it. Its public rating is 4.6 from 732 ratings, and that rating is for the group, not for any club or show.

Which nights are good for meeting people?

Pick a format where the audience has a job. The Wednesday Pub Quiz Show starts at 20:00, costs nothing and is played in teams against a comedian. The pages do not say whether a single player gets placed on a team, so ask at the door.

The open mics mix performers and watchers, and the Monday and Tuesday evening ones are free. Big Mic Energy, on the first and third Tuesday, is billed for women, non-binary comedians and newcomers. Our open mic guide explains each night.

The free workshops are the most social format. The Saturday writing session and the Sunday improv and clown sessions at Laietana start at 15:00. For a paid drop-in, BIG's Sunday Open Workshop costs €15 and is marked beginner friendly. Our classes guide compares the options.

Can you learn Spanish at a comedy show?

The Spanglish Show says you can laugh and learn Spanish in the only bilingual comedy show in town. It sits in The Lounge at Laietana on Thursdays at 22:00, with Ricardo Andrade Malo as host. Tickets start at €10 online.

The Showcases page calls it weekly, yet only two November dates have event pages. Check the dated list before you go. The page does not say how much Spanish to expect or what level it assumes.

English is not the only language of the club's courses either. It lists a free beginners' stand-up workshop in Italian. We found no equivalent in French or Catalan.

What should a first-timer expect?

Expect a bar. The rooms serve drinks, and food is available on site. Seats are not held past the start time, so arrive when the doors open. For most evening shows that is thirty minutes before the show.

Age limits, stairs and contact details are in our reviews of Laietana and Canvis Nous. Read them before you bring a guest who needs step-free access or is under 18.

For the metro, use TMB. None of the pages we read names a station.

What does it cost to try?

Trying comedy can cost nothing: the open mics, the quiz and the workshops are free. Paid showcases begin at €8 online on Wednesdays, and the weekend Spotlights cost €12 online.

Four or more people pay €10 each at the Friday and Saturday Spotlights. Our group night guide explains how to book, and our date night guide covers pairs.

What do we not know?

We do not know the share of the audience that is English-speaking, how many regulars each night has or how welcoming a room feels to a person on their own. Nobody from this site has sat through these nights yet, so nothing here describes one.

Once someone has, a dated note goes into the relevant review.

Questions people ask

Do I need Spanish to enjoy comedy in Barcelona?

Not for the English nights. The Comedy Clubhouse tags each event by language, and in the listings we read for November 2026 almost all of its shows were in English. Rooms such as Teatreneu and Teatre Muntaner sell mostly Spanish or Catalan shows, so for those you need the language. Check the language tag before you pay.

Where do newcomers meet people through comedy?

Pick formats where people talk: the Wednesday pub quiz, played in teams, and the free workshops and open mics at Laietana. BIG's Sunday Open Workshop is a paid drop-in at €15. A showcase gives a shared laugh but little conversation. The Meetup group English Comedy in Barcelona announces some nights.

Is there comedy that mixes English and Spanish?

Yes. The Spanglish Show is billed as the only bilingual comedy show in town, and runs on Thursdays at 22:00 at Laietana. It is hosted by Ricardo Andrade Malo and costs €10 online. The club pitches it as a night to laugh and pick up some Spanish. We found no bilingual show elsewhere.

What does an evening cost?

Between nothing and about €12 for most nights. The open mics, the pub quiz and the workshops are free. A weekly showcase costs €8 to €12 online, and door prices are higher where listed. Groups of four or more get a lower price on most paid nights. Drinks and food are extra.

Are the shows suitable for people new to stand-up?

The English showcases are plain stand-up with a host, so no knowledge of local comedy is needed. Jokes may rely on life in Barcelona, which a newcomer will start to recognise. Adults are the club's default audience, so ask first about anyone under 18.

How big is the comedy scene here?

Large enough to support English nights every week. Ara reported on 19 September 2026 that 240,000 comedy tickets were sold in Barcelona the year before, and that there are ten comedy festivals in the country. That figure covers all languages. The English share is smaller, and is not measured in any source we found.
